Mission

Towards Human-Centred Mental Health Care

EViPRG envisions mental health care services that use least restrictive approaches that place the individual at the centre of care. Our mission aligns with international policy imperatives led by the World Health Organization (WHO), the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), and the Council of Europe, among others.

Vision

Reducing Violence, Promoting Rights

As an international, non-governmental network of researchers, clinicians, educators, trainers, and experts by experience, we are committed to working collaboratively to prevent and reduce violence and coercion in mental health services. Our aims include advancing practice competency, improving service quality, and promoting human rights for people with mental health conditions.

Purpose

Since its founding in 1997, EViPRG has grown into a dynamic network of over 120 members across Europe and beyond. We have catalysed numerous multi-country research initiatives, secured major grants, and developed a robust platform for collaborative academic and practice-based innovation.

Our key objectives are to:
  • Organise a minimum of three symposia annually (including one in-person event) and host an international congress biennially.
  • Engage meaningfully with people with lived experience of mental health services, carers, families, and advocacy organisations.
  • Support Early Career Researchers (ECRs) through mentoring, training, and collaboration opportunities.
  • Attract funding from the European Union and other national & international bodies to advance research, dissemination, and societal impact.
  • Ensure diverse representation across Europe and engage proactively with partners globally.

FAQs

Do I need to register if I am already an EViPRG member?

Yes. All existing members must register on the new platform, accept the terms, and pay the membership fee to remain active.

Why is this change happening?

To provide:

  • secure, GDPR-compliant data management
  • a members-only knowledge hub
  • clearer governance and communication channels
  • a sustainable infrastructure for the network
What does the membership fee cover?

The fee supports:

  • website development and maintenance
  • membership administration
  • access to EViPRG events and resources
  • being on the EViPRG board in an unpaid role
Will I be approved automatically as an existing member?

Existing members who register and pay the fee will not need a new approval decision. New applicants will be reviewed by the Board.

What happens if I don't register?

You will:

  • lose access to members-only content
  • stop receiving official communications
  • no longer be listed as a member
Do I have to join the LinkedIn group?

No, but it is strongly recommended. The LinkedIn group will be the main space for:

  • discussions
  • sharing publications and events
  • networking with other members
Will my details be visible to other members?

Only if you give consent. You can choose which information you share with the other members, but we strongly recommend to be part of the members' directory to encourage collaboration and knowledge exchange.

What happens to the EViPRG freelist?
  • It will remain active until the end of summer 2026 for transition purposes, after which it will be discontinued. A one-way mailing system (Mailchimp) will be put in place.
  • For communication from and between members, the EViPRG LinkedIn platform will be used.
