Organisation

The European Violence in Psychiatry Research Group (EViPRG) is an active network of mental health researchers, educators and practitioners with over 40 members in 15 European countries.

The group aims to enhance the understanding, prevention and management of violence in psychiatric settings by conducting research and disseminating good practice. EViPRG works by drawing on it's members' multidisciplinary expertise in clinical psychology, education, mental health nursing, pharmacology, psychiatry and sociology to examine the problem of violence from a wide range of perspectives.

EViPRG is an active and productive network which meets twice a year to exchange and update ideas and to disseminate research to mental health practitioners in participating countries. EViPRG was founded in 1997 by Professor Len Bowers (City University, London, UK) and Dr. Richard Whittington (Liverpool University, UK). It was supported in its early stages of development by funding from the European Commission as part of FP5.
